About us
Karkulka is a guide for women and families from the first weeks of pregnancy to the end of the first year with a baby. We write about things where you can lean on checked information, and on every article we show where that information comes from.
Who we are
Karkulka is written by a small editorial team. We are not doctors, midwives or lactation consultants, and we do not pretend to be. That is why, on health topics, we do not write off the top of our heads but from the published recommendations of organisations such as the WHO, the NHS, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the International Hip Dysplasia Institute, and we always point you to professionals who can see you in person.
We do not put authors’ names on articles; the Karkulka editorial team as a whole is responsible for the content. If a specialist adviser ever joins us, we will name them only when they genuinely review an article, and with their real qualifications.
The English edition
Karkulka was written in Slovak first. This English edition is for English-speaking parents living in Slovakia: it carries the same facts and the same sources as the Slovak original, and keeps the Slovak names of offices, documents and services where you will meet them in real life.
What we write about
- babywearing – wraps, carriers, safety and ergonomics,
- maternity and nursing clothes – what to buy, when, and what lasts,
- breastfeeding, pregnancy and birth on a practical level,
- the first months with a baby and baby essentials.
We would rather have fewer articles that really help than many empty ones. Topics we have not yet checked are listed in each section under the heading Coming later.
How we are funded
For now Karkulka has no advertising, no paid articles and no commission links, and it sells nothing. Later we may add product comparisons or collaborations with brands. If that happens, they will be clearly labelled and will not influence safety or health information. The rules are set out in our editorial policy.
What used to be on this domain
The address karkulka.sk was once home to an online shop selling maternity clothes, nursing clothes and babywearing products. That shop no longer operates. Today’s Karkulka has nothing to do with it: it is not its continuation, it does not sell its goods and it does not handle its orders, complaints or contract withdrawals.
