Editorial policy

This policy sets out what you can expect from Karkulka, and what not to expect from us. It applies to every article, every tool and every answer in Questions & answers.

What we stick to

  1. Every health or safety claim has a source. Next to the text there is a small number, and at the end of the article a panel headed Where this comes from, with a link to the publisher. How we choose sources is explained on the page How we check information.
  2. What we cannot check, we do not write. We would rather admit that we have no authoritative answer (for example to the question of the longest you should carry a baby in one go) than make one up.
  3. Every article has a date. “Updated” means the day we last went through the text and its sources.
  4. We do not invent people. We have no fictitious authors, doctors, reviewers, quotes or readers’ stories. The questions in Questions & answers were put together by the editorial team.
  5. We do not diagnose. On health topics we describe what is usual and when to seek help. The decision belongs to a doctor, a midwife or a lactation consultant.
  6. We do not draw anything that could cause harm. For example, we do not draw the steps for tying a wrap, because a simplified picture could lead to an unsafe tie. Our illustrations show only checked principles.
  7. We do not use photographs we have no right to use, nor artificially generated “photos”. We draw our illustrations in code.

Independence and products

At the moment we have no advertising, sponsored articles or commission links. If we ever include them:

  • they will be clearly labelled right next to the content,
  • the health and safety parts of articles will not depend on who is paying,
  • product comparisons will have published criteria, and we will not invent ratings or reviews in them.

When we get it wrong

Mistakes happen. If you find an inaccuracy, out-of-date information or a broken link to a source, write to napiste@karkulka.sk. It helps if you include the address of the article and what you think is wrong, ideally with a link to a source.

What we do:

  • we read the report and check it against the original source,
  • if it is a mistake, we correct the article and change the update date,
  • if the correction changes the meaning of the advice (for example on safety or health), we add a short note to the article saying what we changed and when,
  • small typos we correct without a note.

The Karkulka editorial team is responsible for the content.
